Annual Food Drive and Fund Raiser for First Unitarian Church Food Bank

When the monsoon rains have cleared and left the Earth refreshed, the Goddess calls her children out to play...come join us for a day of harvest celebrations for our annual Pagan Pride Day. Starting at 10 am, this event is packed with a full day of pagan workshops, harvest rituals, crafts and games, merchants, kids activities, a labyrinth, bellydancing in the Gypsy Camp, and artisan gallery, all aimed to educate and entertain the public on the different paths of Paganism. The public is asked to bring a canned food item or a couple of dollars for the food bank collection.

Albuquerque’s local event Pagan Pride Day is affiliated with the Pagan Pride Project (www.paganpride.org), a global organization whose mission is to promote community service and education in pagan religions.  Last year over 36,000 people attended the 86 Pagan Pride events held in the United States, Canada, UK, Italy, Portugal and Brazil.  Together, they collected $31,410.00 and donated over 48,000 pounds of foods and goods to charities.  More than 115 events are scheduled for this year.  Albuquerque’s Pagan Pride Chapter has been hosting a harvest event since 2001, and has donated over 4,000 pounds to local food banks.

Pagan Pride Day Albuquerque will be held on August 29, 2010 at Bataan Park, Lomas/Carlisle from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The event celebrates the Autumn Equinox, a time of thanksgiving in many Pagan traditions, and welcomes people of all ages and spiritual backgrounds. The cost of admission, a donation or a non-perishable food item to support  Albuquerque's First Unitarian Church Food Bank, will open the doors to a world of exotic merchants, workshops, ritualistic plays, information booths, and plenty of games and activities for all ages.

Come and experience the local Pagan artistry and craftsmanship, from photography and painting to wood carving, jewelry, ritual tools, sewing and other crafts. Enjoy a relaxed day with the entire family and learn about many Pagan traditions, from Wicca, Shamanism, Druid, Asatru and see many harvest altars and decorations! Pamper yourself with massage, tarot readings, lotions, candies and henna and entertain your children in our craft and games kid's korner.

The International Pagan Pride Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of prejudice and religious discrimination through education, activism, charity and community. Pagan Pride celebrations are held annually around the world within two weeks of the Autumn Equinox. The project held 137 events in 2006 and 112 events in 2005 and has raised over $559,000.00 in food and financial donations.

The food drive gives participants a way to share with those who are less fortunate while making a positive statement about Paganism. For decades Pagans have been misunderstood when in reality most Pagans enjoy a religion emphasizing respect for nature, humanity, and oneself. Modern Paganism, or Neo-Paganism, is a growing movement based on combinations of ancient polytheism, modern eco-spirituality, and reverence for the Divine as both masculine and feminine.

Pagan Pride Day is co-sponsored by Pagan Pride Day Albuquerque and the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS). Donations will be given to the First Unitarian Church Food Bank. For more information contact us.
