Albuquerque Pagan Pride Day - Sunday September 30, 2012
Annual Food Drive and Fund Raiser for First Unitarian Church Food Bank
Thanks to everyone who made this year's Pagan Pride Day Albuquerque event so sucessful.
Albuquerque’s local event Pagan Pride Day is affiliated with the Pagan Pride Project (www.paganpride.org), a global organization whose mission is to promote community service and education in pagan religions. Pagan Pride Days are not only about bringing Pagans and the community in celebration and for education, but we always try to give back to our communities directly.
In 2010, 27,582.76 pounds of food was collected for donation to local community food banks. Pagan Pride Day events also donated: over 26 units of blood for local blood banks, 24 pounds of school supplies, over 178 books/supplies for Pagans in the military, over 150 pieces of clothing for charities, and never forgetting our animal friends - we collected 396 pounds of pet food along with an assortment of pet supplies.

Pagan Pride Day Albuquerque will be held Sunday, Ocotober 2, 2011. The event celebrates the Autumn Equinox, a time of thanksgiving in many Pagan traditions, and welcomes people of all ages and spiritual backgrounds. The cost of admission, a donation or a non-perishable food item to support Albuquerque's First Unitarian Church Food Bank, will open the doors to a world of exotic merchants, workshops, ritualistic plays, information booths, and plenty of games and activities for all ages.
Come and experience the local Pagan artistry and craftsmanship, from photography and painting to wood carving, jewelry, ritual tools, sewing and other crafts. Enjoy a relaxed day with the entire family and learn about many Pagan traditions, from Wicca, Shamanism, Druid, Asatru and see many harvest altars and decorations! Pamper yourself with massage, tarot readings, lotions, candies and henna and entertain your children in our craft and games kid's korner.
The International Pagan Pride Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of prejudice and religious discrimination through education, activism, charity and community.
The final event numbers for 2010 Pagan Pride Day events held in conjunction with the Pagan Pride Project, Inc. were a total of 98 events on FOUR continents:
United States held 78 events in 37 out of 48 continental United States as well as Washington DC and Alaska.
Canada held 9 events in 3 provinces: Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
Latin America saw 6 events in 5 countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Paraguay.
The European Union held 3 events: Plymouth, United Kingdom; Rome, Italy; and the first ever PPD in Praha (Prague) in the Czech Republic.
Our 2010 attendance of 51,824 exceeded our expectations and exceeded last year's attendance by over 14,000! Since 2007 this is our third year in a row with increased attendance: in 2009, 36,989 people attended and in 2008, attendance was only 22,148.
Besides the food donations mentioned above, monies collected onsite at Pagan Pride Day events that were directly donated to local community charities equaled $5406.74, and we expect that number to increase once each event files their financial end of the year report. Monies raised at local Pagan Pride Day events go directly back into the local communities. The Pagan Pride Project does not take money from our events or charge fees for local events.
The Pagan Pride Day Project is a completely volunteer organization and no one within our organization, including our Board of Directors receives compensation for our time or involvement. It is our dedication to the organization and the success of our events that rewards us. We realize that our organization would not be successful without support of others and therefore, the Board of Directors and the Regional Coordinators would like to thank everyone involved with our 2010 events including but not limited to: our local event coordinators; event volunteers; public sponsors including businesses, covens, churches, groves and groups; vendors at our events; and all the attendees for their support of their local Pagan Pride Day events and communities around the world.
Our annual food drive gives participants a way to share with those who are less fortunate while making a positive statement about Paganism. For decades Pagans have been misunderstood when in reality most Pagans enjoy a religion emphasizing respect for nature, humanity, and oneself. Modern Paganism, or Neo-Paganism, is a growing movement based on combinations of ancient polytheism, modern eco-spirituality, and reverence for the Divine as both masculine and feminine.
Pagan Pride Day is co-sponsored by Pagan Pride Day Albuquerque and the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS). Donations will be given to the First Unitarian Church Food Bank. For more information contact us.
Congratulations to everyone! Blessings for a successful and a prosperous 2011 event season!
