Albuquerque Pagan Pride Day

Dear Fellow Pagans:

 

We invite you to join us for Pagan Pride Day 2011!  PPD is about education, networking, and outreach within the pagan community and to the general public.  This year's event will be held on Sunday, October 2 in Nob Hill's Bataan Park from 9:30 am to  5pm.  Any group involved with paganism is encouraged to participate as a resource for the community.

 

We recognize that individual groups have diverse ideas about what information is appropriate to share publicly, so we invite you to share your path to the extent you feel comfortable.  We will provide a 10' x 10' booth free of charge to non-profit groups, including a table if you need one.  You will need to provide an appropriate sun shade, booth decorations and chairs.  In exchange, we ask that you join us in the networking and welcoming of folks interested in paganism by participating in a Scavenger Hunt that will be organized by the PPD staff.  In essence, we ask that you provide 5 questions and answers about your particular path (or paganism in general) which your volunteers at your booth will be able to answer. We will be using the questions as part of a scavenger hunt to help the public become better acquainted with the diverse groups that comprise our pagan community.  Examples might include questions like “What is Asatru?” Why is a chalice used?, what is the Harvest festival (or some other Sabbat) meaning?   The participants of the Scavenger Hunt will be going around to the non-profit booths to get the questions answered and will get a prize (provided by PPD) for completing the rounds.

 

We would also be delighted if you would like to teach a workshop or lead a discussion about some aspect of paganism or your particular path.  Each workshop is 45 minutes long and we are always looking for beginning type subjects about varied traditions.

 

If your group is not interested in outreach or education, you can still participate with a harvest-themed altar or seasonal display.  This year we will be having a “People's choice” award for favorite altar/display, which you may participate in or not, as you prefer.

Pagan Pride Day 2011

Non-Profit Organizations Opportunities

 

We invite you to be part of the 11th Annual Albuquerque Pagan Pride Day.  Albuquerque is one of 195 Pagan Pride events (www.paganpride.org) being held worldwide during the harvest season with the goal of community service, education and the celebration of Pagan beliefs.  Pagan Pride Day (PPD) will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Bataan Park in Albuquerque, NM and will feature workshops, merchants, kids korner, a labyrinth, gypsy/bellydance camp, altar contest and many other fun events.  Our main focus is the Harvest Food Drive, the cost of admission for the public is a non-perishable food item which supports the First Unitarian Church’s Food bank here in NM.  Through the efforts of many, this event has grown to over 150 participants and crowds of over 600 people.  The cost of the event is covered by merchant fees, advertising, a raffle, and donations of many who support the goals of PPD.   Please refer to the Non-Profit invitation letter that accompanies this form for more information on specifics for non-profits.  The coordinator this year is Paldon (Don Schiff).  You can reach him at 505-280-4195 or email at: donschiff@comcast.net.

All non-profits MUST be pre-registered and must complete and submit a registration form at least five days before the event.

 

Pagan Pride Day is a religious celebration of the wide diversity of beliefs and practices found among contemporary Pagans. For this reason, we ask that all non-profits if not specifically pagan, be what is considered VERY pagan friendly.

PPD will provide (1) 6’ ft table, if needed. Non-profits will have to provide all tarps, chairs, decorations for their booth. Please have sun protection, it gets very warm in the NM sun! No stakes may be driven into the ground. Bring water containers, sand bags or other materials to hold down canopies. The City of Albuquerque requires each booth to have a fire extinguisher and to use non-flamable decorations at each booth.   Set up time is 6 am to 9:15 am.
